Jonas Hiller Is A Dweeb

If Jonas Hiller was my goalie I would leave guys open in the slot all night long. Trying to bring koho pads back like you read about. Newsflash Jonas, koho hasn't been relevant since Patrick Roy, and that is a fact. Get out of my face with this brutal look Jonas.

Florida Panthers Attendance Sucks

As if we need more proof that the Panthers have absolutley no fans, here it is..

This looks more like a Federal Hockey Leage game than an actual NHL game. Hey give Florida fans a little bit of a break, they have some pretty solid football teams to watch instead. Oh wait.. They suck too.

In all seriousness it is pretty sad. FLA does have some pretty solid young talent and watching Bobby Ryan for the Sens is worth the money for a ticket.

BTW: gotta love the make some noise sign on the jumbo like there is actually a full house of fans trying to make some noise

Mike Milbury Is A Joke

Milbury cannot be serious with this shit can he? He has to just be putting on a front for the camera and all of the PC police big whigs hoping he can land a job in a front office after his stint at NBC sports, which is hopefully sooner rather than later. Fighting is going no where anytime soon and Mike knows that. Save this concussion bull shit for a different conversation at a different time.

Something tells me Mike wasn't worried about the fans getting concussions during this night at MSG. Couldn't be more excited for hockey to be back but I could for sure do without having to listen to this fool talk on NBC Sports.

Frosty The Flow Man Fantasy Advice

Just to get it on paper before everyone and their mother begins to talk about him, I would like to say right now Dustin Tokarski is a goalie to own on your fantasy team.  Remember the playoffs last year when Price went down and everyone counted the Habs out?  Until Dustin rose to the occasion and played like a fucking wall.  Well now, Budaj is out of Montreal leaving  Tokarski as the lone back up. Price will obviously be the guy, but Dustin will see some starts and if he plays well, he could see more action than expected. Also, Price is no where close to being immune to injuries.

You heard it here first. Dustin Tokaraski is a goalie to own on your fantasy roster.

Hawks Deal With Salary Cap Issues, Deal Leddy To Isles

No more Nick Leddy in Chicago. It's been a good run for Nick in the windy city but its hard to have all of the best players in the league and stay under the salary cap. I will say it wasn't everything it could have been for Nick in Chicago. When the Hawks got him from Minnesota, there were talks that he could be the next great D man and he potentially still could. At only 23 and now playing on a team without star studded defensemen like Keith and Seabrook, Leddy could come into his out with the Isles.  Look out for NYI to be a playoff contender in the East.

Now, what did the Hawks get for Leddy?  *Spoiler Alert*: It isn't much.

TJ Brennan -

A second round pick in 2007, TJ has moved around from a few different teams but had a strong year last season with the Toronto Marlies notching 72 points in 76 games. TJ would be the most likely player of this deal to end up with the big club at some point.

Ville Pokka - A 20-year-old Finnish kid who I don't know alot about other than he is a 6 foot D man who looks exactly like a 20-year-old Finnish kid.

Anders Nilsson -

24 year old goalie whos is big and has NHL experience. Not a bad addition here, he will obviously begin in Rockford but barring any injuries to either Crawford or Raanta, it will be nice to have him ready to go.

Only 4 days until Hawks Hockey, folks.

Brad Being Brad

Good to see Marchand is in regular season form. You don't become the most annoying player in the league by taking any days off. It doesn't matter if it is only the preseaaon, Brad is going to jump and take head shots if and when he pleases.

A little off the subject but what is up with all of these fights during pre season? I get it if you're a kid trying to make a team and want to impress the big dogs upstairs by dropping the mitts, but I've seen plenty of guys who are clearly going to make the team fight and I have zero idea why. David Clarkson broke his face during a pre season fight, what the fuck? This is like night and day difference between NFL and NHL. Players barely see any snaps during pre season football and in hockey players are punching faces when games mean nothing. Crazy stuff.

Say Goodbye To The Dump And Chase Strategy ?

StarTribune - To say Zach Parise has evolved is an understatement.
The Wild winger used to be a big proponent of the dump-and-chase game, reminding critics during a classic rant last year that all teams dump the puck, including the Pittsburgh Penguins when they won the Stanley Cup in 2009, and all four conference finalists the previous year, including the New Jersey Devils he captained.
“We went to the Finals dumping and chasing. We did it more than anybody. And we scored a lot,” Parise said in February 2013.
But as the Wild has transitioned to becoming a better puck possession team, Parise has changed his tune dramatically.
“I read a study this summer that showed shots generated off carrying the puck in as opposed to dumping it in, and it’s like 4-to-1. It’s not even close,” said Parise, who is set to make his preseason debut with linemates Mikael Granlund and Jason Pominville against the Penguins on Thursday night. “I just found it so interesting because everyone’s like, ‘Forecheck, forecheck, forecheck.’
“I get it, but you dump the puck, you have to get it back. All you’re doing is giving the puck away. I mean, it’s so hard to get it, why would you give it away?”
The Wild tried to skate the puck into the offensive zone more last season and should be better at it this season if speedsters Erik Haula and Jason Zucker are on the roster full-time and if others gain further confidence.
“I just got kind of, not brainwashed, but my last couple years in New Jersey we were so adamant about dumping the puck in,” Parise said. “But you lose a lot of your creativity and you lose a lot of good touches. I mean, if a ‘D’s in your face, you’ve got no other options and you have to.
“But dump it just to dump it, I’m not a believer anymore in getting rid of the puck when it’s so hard to get. That’s the way we played in New Jersey. We always had a plan: Forwards dumped it in, we knew where it was going and that’s how we got it back. But the more I thought about it, possession is just so much better than dumping it in. Dumping it should be, I don’t want to say your last option, but your second or third option.”

Well look here, Captain America himself is questioning one of the most established and certainties of the world..  Taxes, death and dump and chase.  Not only trying to be one of the best players in today's game, but also trying to redefine something that has been prevalent for so long. Can't say I hate his hustle, but don't you think somewhere at some point someone has thought about this before and there is a reason why every hockey team in the world dumps and chases?  I get what he is saying, I really do. If there is not a need to dump the puck, DONT. However, more often than not, when you are in the neutral zone you are out numbered and don't have a play. The better place to turn over the puck will forever and always be behind the other teams goal rather than at the red line. That theory will never change.

BTW: Dump and Chase is one of the greatest sayings in hockey, not quite as good as Dump and Change, but if dump and chase becomes obsolete, it only begs the question, what will happen to dump and change??

Hockey Season Is Back; Hawks Season Preview

Ahhh. The smell is in the air and if you have been around the sport of hockey before, you know that smell is one that will never seem to leave you. Hockey season. It seems like it was just days ago that I was on the verge of tears with my head hanging at a local tavern after watching the fluke ass goal that advanced the Kings to the Stanley Cup Finals. Another season and another chance for the Hawks to prove once again they are the best team in the world.

During the off season, the Hawks were able to lock up Kane and Toews with long term deal, which is obviously big for their future. There is no doubt they will be a playoff team for years to come.

This season, there are 2 names to keep an eye out for. Brad Richards and Teuvo Teravainen. One is one of the most simple and basic of names and the other is a real tongue twister.  One is also a proven vet and the other still has question marks surrounding him.

During the off season I enjoy watching classic games on NHL Network and one of those a couple weeks ago was the '04 Cup Finals when the Lightning topped the Flames. Yes, it took me a minute to believe the Flames and Lightning were once relevant. One of the most relevant players during that season was the 24-year-old Brad Richards who won the Conn Smythe. Obviously Brad is not 24 anymore, but he will still contribute to this Hawks team and could be a difference maker once the playoffs roll around.

On the other hand we have Teuvo, who is gaining all kinds of hype for this Kane-like abilities. If you know me, you know I am not going to get too hyped for this kid. Yes, he has potential but in the limited amount of action he has played with the big club, he hasn't done a whole lot. He is also beginning training camp day-to-day and doesn't seem to have the personal drive to make the Hawks starting roster, to me he almost seems content with playing in Rockford for a year or so. All I am saying is don't get too over hyped on "turbo", the hawks have enough good young talent that we don't need to pressure this kid into being something he isn't.

Remember this Franklin the Turtle looking guy?

Believe it or not,  Cam Barker has the chance to be the Hawks 6th D man. I've never been a huge fan of Barker but then again, I don't think I can name a 6th defenseman who I am a fan of. I can tell you one thing for sure, it is better than bringing Brent Sopel back.

Nothing says hockey season is here more than the two best looking guys in Chicago with scars and stitches on their mugs.

Toews Is Sneaky The Biggest Referee Hater In The League

I have noticed this for a while now but last night it became so crystal clear to me that Toews fucking hates refs and feeds them lip abuse all game long.  He got called on a bull shit slash last night and he let them know how BS it was.  I can't find video of it but I was able to scrounge this one up when I wrote about how terrible Don Van Massenhoven is.  Just watch whenever Toews or anyone else on the Hawks for that matter, get a bull shit penalty he will feed them F-bombs left and right so they know they are fucking up.  Love it. Captain Serious.

Has nothing to do with bitching at refs but this picture is a great one.

Leafs Fan Jump Boards And Slides On Ice

Well this is a new one.  I don't think I've seen this before but needless to say I am all about it.  He did no harm to the players or refs, just wanted to see what it felt like to slide his ass long Maple Leaf ice.  Can't blame him.  Wont blame him.  Guarantee he just got a slap on the wrist for this stunt.  Probably was able to go back to his 300 level seats and continue to watch the game and keep drinking Labatt.  It's not like Rob Ford would give a shit, in fact don't be surprised if Robby boy does this himself next Leafs home game.

Ugly Scene In Toronto

In case you haven't seen it..

Ugly ugly hit.  These situations always suck especially when the player is seriously hurt like Ranger was.  In Killorn's defense, no one ever intentionally does shit like this.  Ranger just throws on the breaks and Killorn is already committed to the hit and it happens.  As much as it sucks it's a part of the game.  It's an unnaturally quick game and events like this are going to happen.  Nonetheless, keep Paulie boy in your thoughts.

What The Hell Is Tim Thomas Thinking?

Holy Olli Canoli!!   Now I'm no goalie coach or goalie expert but I'm definitely a believer in the old saying "look good, feel good, play good" and Tim, you are doing none of that. For Gods sake get some fucking matching pads! I understand if you don't have them for a couple days after you get traded to your new team but a couple weeks has come and gone and he is still rocking the hideous red blue and yellow Panther pads. If I was a Stars fan I would be pissed, like I don't think I could even watch a full 60 minutes of Stars hockey. Watch him after he lets in the goal just bitching at his D for leaving Olli alone in front, can't say I blame his teammates on that one. If you can't get some matching equipment expect guys to be open in the slot all night long. Common logic.

FIGURE IT OUT!

Let's Talk About Brian Burkes Flow Game

Everyone knows I can and do respect good flow.  However, this is not that. This is over flow for him to try to still rock the side part.  It has the length to slick straight back so why doesn't he slick it straight back?  When I look at this I respect the effort but it's just not working for him.  So Brian, if you read the sauce please listen to me and change up the flow game.

BTW: It hurts me to even think that a Basketball big wig could out do a Hockey big wig in the flow game but I would pay serious and I mean serious money to know what Pat Riley does and uses for his indescribable salad.

Kid Cheap Shots A Kid And Somehow Doesn't End Up Dead

I have watched this about 5 times now and I will continue to do so until this fool gets put into a body bag.  I don't care if this was mighty-mite, mite, squirt, pee-wee, bantam, highschool, junior, college, pros, or olympic hockey game, this can't happen.  How does no one go up to the kid and knock him out?  The only realistic answer is no one likes that kid on the team but even that isn't a good enough excuse.  I am in complete and utter disbelief that this kid gets away with this nonsense completely.  Maybe it is time for the hockey heads in Delaware to go over 'the code' to the youth.

BTW: I love nothing more than some good hockey parent banter in the crowd.

Hawks May Have Lost, But Rozsival Gets Last Laugh

Yeah maybe the Hawks lost a tough one last night. Yeah maybe the Hawks are beginning to realize that the Avalanche might be for real and can actually play with them. But when push comes to shove (literally) the Hawks got the last laugh by KO ing the ref and getting away with it. Total fluke but the ref hits the ground hard and comes up trying to penalize who did it but not really knowing who did it.

BTW: My only wish was that it was Don Van Massenhoven.
