The Canadian luge coach believes that his team was the victim of sabotage during the luge team relay yesterday – and he’s pointing the finger at the Russians.
Coach Wolfgang Staudinger told the Toronto Star that he believes someone tampered with the track temperature, which is controlled by a boiler room. He claimed to the paper that Russian track officials turned up the temperature after the Russian team had its run.
“Canada was silver at the top, but the further we went down, the slower we got. That’s a clear sign that the track slowed down dramatically,” Staudinger told the Star. “It’s always hard to prove, but I’m long enough in the business that I can you when people, especially the Austrians who won silver yesterday, were dropping a half second, that’s not normal.”
I know just about nothing about Luge but one thing I do know is that when a man named Wolfgang speaks about something, you fucking listen. You can't tell me Wolfgang doesn't have a valid argument here. Going into the boiler room and turning up the ice track temperature after your team races is the oldest trick in the book. This little stunt only makes you wonder what else Russia is doing over there to rig the medal count. Nothing can be done for Russia on Saturday when USA is going to take them to school in the sport of Ice Hockey. Just don't fuck with the boiler room or the ice temperatures and US will win by 2 or more. Mark my words.
